june 21 Goddamn, it's the cops! Where are the explosives? The bombs! The bombs! Right fuckin now! the ministry of propaganda has been taking a break for reasons our lawyer & psychiatrist both advice us not to disclose... but anyway, since the last time we abused this keyboard we've been around Europe some, and have heaps of thanks & awright there & you go, people, & etc for lots of people & places, especially for ev'body at Mittelsinn, München, Bern, Langenthal (where we played with Roy & the Devil's Motorcycle again, god bless their stoned heads cos they are one of a kind and bands like this do NOT happen every day!, and DO click on that link, even if you only really get 10% of the experience with that youtube-video), Bergamo (ya fukkin rokked) & Nürnberg (ya fukkin stoned, in a good way, and you were all there and that kinda breaks our hearts). ... and that's not even touching on our Sardinia experience at DunaJam (do some clicking & readin at Myspace to see what it was all about if you don't know); very chaotically "organized", but we quickly adjusted to Italian time ("10 minutes" = mañana) & thus did not care (never did adjust to the Starship Troopers-like insects, though). Keep it up, Ollie & Luca, we wanna come back to the most beatiful island in the Mediterranean... ... and then back home thru a surprisingly good day at the Swamproomhappening, lots of nice people even though we were so busted from lack of sleep that we didn't even really recognize Boris from Mittelsinn when he dropped by to say hi and aint that just about the most shameful thing to (not) do, but heck his band played a blazing show wearing only boxer shorts and the singer was rightfully "yeaaah what are the next band gonna do!" but then we do have some secret weapons mr. singer man so don't get tooo full of yourself just yet, come back in ten years time when you have more than just energy he he he... ... and then the Spot Festival gig predictably sucked some ass but anyway the GUTTER ISLAND LIVE ALBUM was finished for that date, so it was an okay date if only for that, and for downing lotsa draft beers in the sunshine.... the LP, you got that one? The Gutter Island Live Vinyl Long Playing Album is out about now, g'damnit!, get it here. ... shit, almost forgot about Aalborg w/ the Woodroses... well, you probably should've been there... Baby Woodrose goes on for encores and it turns into Dragontears, with our Hobbit, back to the audience, delivering the aural hallucinations as only he can do it while Lorenzo W. spewed out challenging hippie lyrics, and Anders shaking the tambourine or whatever... yeah, you shoulda been there. It was grand. ... excuse us for a moment, we have to spew some Iraq-related bile in Danish (summary: some righteous people are trying to impeach our prime minister): Fra DR: "Statsminister Anders Fogh Rasmussen åbner nu op for at hjælpe alle irakere, der har hjulpet den danske styrke i Irak. --january 23-- Calling all the 10 percenters - the 10 percent that don't fit but do care, cos society is all of us. The 10 percent who care about love, throwable bricks and intoxication. Stand up and feel it, we're all here tonight. “If you would not feel the horrible burden of Time that bruises your shoulders and bends you to the earth, you must be drunken without cease. But how? With wine, with poetry, with virtue, with what you please. But be drunken.” Baudelaire "It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of non-violence to cover impotence. Violence is any day preferable to impotence. There is hope for a violent man to become non-violent. There is no such hope for the impotent." Mahatma Gandhi "Pass the gravy, please." Brother Albert Einstein Tromsø rules. A small hard town on the edge of a dark cold ocean, surrounded by unforgiving Lovecraftesque mountains and inhabited by cool rocknroll-loving people armed with exciting single malts - we Luff long time! Halden & Oslo were nice too, but the truth must be known - Tromsø rules! --december 23-- Jesus of Nazareth was a Jewish freedom fighter. Christmas is another opportunity to shop your way to freedom. Merry 'Days off From Work', everybody! --december 10-- We had one nice gig with 50 Foot Spiders (they're much better live than on tape, so come to Copenhagen people ;-) ), except for one drunk and extremely obnoxious English guy - lots of thanks to our friends for trying to deal with him... The Gutter Island gig is out soon as we get the cover together, and it's gettin there, just hold tight all Bad Afro crew... We're coming out to play in January/February, and going to Italy first time alone, yay! - the schedule (above) is still a bit rough around the edges, so like we always say: Don't touch that dial- erh, mouse. Whatever. --october 16-- Bad Afro and the Danish Radio will release the Gutter Island show on vinyl. But apart from that & Roadburn, not much keeps piling up: Playing around with a video camera, Frank at Weird World has started looking for German gigs in January. We're playing a secret party gig in Malmö later this month. Hembränt fy fan! Korv med rejesalat! Well it's not really secret, but that kinda makes it sound more exclusive. Btw., the promised 'hit single version' of "Morning Sun in Burg Herzberg" (which we mentioned a good couple of months ago) wasn't hitty enough, so it's not going to happen. ... until later, listen here and laugh here (in a pissed off kinda way). And get this one - Troops battle 10-foot marijuana plants! and then again... it's not really really funny that Talibans manage to sneak away from their just fate, even if it's through a cloud of sweet smoke. Cos "Taliban" is still short for "patriarchal religious nuts who want to stone rape victims to death". --september 23-- Tour recap: A few of you got a lousy show at Den Hemel, sorry bout that. But if the rest of you lot arent satisfied, then we dont know what your problem is. Go see a doctor and get a perfect prescription. Damn, we got to play with Place of Skulls that has an old member of Pentagram which used to be Macabre that wrote Be Forewarned... and apart from that, Place of Skulls mean what they play, so **** off. Hi Benny & Sara! --september 6-- Gutter Island streamed Our concert at the Gutter island festival is still streamed from Danish national radio - listen here. But hurry, officially it was only there until Oct. 1. --august 30--
Gutter Island Yes, it was sweet! Congrats to ourselves for being such a great live band when the stars align. We even got to show off our new dance routine - c'mon evrrrbody, do the OnTrial: Put your best leg forward and look at your fingers! Danish Radio recorded the show.
-- August 20something -- German TV station WDR aired our Crossroads show again on Sunday Aug. 21 at 1.15 at night. It's a nice and well tempered gig, perfectly suitable for family viewing. --July 20-- in all the excitement, we kinda lost track of the website - so a very belated HU! to you people at loppen & woodstock, & to Highway Child for suddenly joining the fun. To make up for the incommunicado-ness, there's now a couple of August gig dates. --June 8-- Gutter Island asked if we wanted to play. We said "Yesss!". For the informationally challenged, Gutter Island is Denmark's li'l own garage rawk festival. Looky here. Radio friendly! We're shamelessly trying to get our hands into the airplay money bag: Ralph has dumbed down 'Morning Sun in Burg Herzberg' in order to make it palatable for national radio, and cut out all the intro and jamming, ending up with 2:42 minutes of pure distilled hippie summer bliss. Bad Afro still need to decide if they wanna invest in making a single out of it... we keep our fingers crossed. Quote of the day: "Don't let the marketing swine dictate your "lifestyle." In fact, don't have a lifestyle. Have a life." That's from here (Wired News). --May 31-- On Trial on national radio - P4 Rock talks to Bo on Sunday (june 4), sometime between 22 and 23. --May 29-- The gig at Loppen, Friday June 9, has grown a bit - Cherry Overdrive will start the evening with their increasingly catchy brand of garage pop! Those of you who already know them will not be late for their show - the rest of you will not want to. They are way better than the songs on their website... aaand your DJ hosts for the evening will be the Woodrose Bros., playing among other things "Radar Eyes" by the Godz. "Forever" is now out in Germany too. Congratulations! For those about to rock... erm, for those who can't find it anywhere else, here's Bad Afros online shop. --May 3-- Gigs: Amplifier Rockbar, Oslo, May 19. Release party: Friday May 5 (yep, that's right now), Route 66 (Fælledvej 3) at 18:00 - we play the record, hand out beer & assault the culture by any means necessary. Fis & ballade: Marijuana March lørdag kl. 14, blågårds plads. Dungen spiller på loppen om aftenen... nu vi alligevel var i gang med at opdatere. --april 17-- "I see Earth. It's so beautiful!" A few days late, but anyway: Raise your glass, light one up or whatever you favour doing on important celebrations, cos April 12th was the 45 year anniversary of mankind going into space for the first time, represented by kosmonaut-comrade Jurij Gagarin. And to all you religious nuts, here's another quote from Gagarin's flight: "I see no God out here." So that's settled, then. --april 14-- Yay! The album's not out yet, and already there's an enthusiastic review (you gotta scroll down). --april 10-- important announcements: in the dead of night we fumbled for the material aspect of the aural vision, the moving shadows sensed on the periphery of hearing... stuff that grows and slowly unfolds clashes against raw concrete and searing white light. scraping skin, seducing minds... "When you have a good thing going, you want it to last... FOREVER. And when the good is good the bad gets going and the good is flowing... FOREVER. And in the search of good it's trial and error. That's why we are... ON TRIAL - FOREVER." SS Blöndal, minister of transportation and propaganda. --march 7-- The new album is called Forever, and here's how it starts: Mountain. And someone's going to have to work real hard to run the schedule off the road. In other words, the release date is still May 8 (we're so not used to this kind of keeping schedules that we meet once a week just to look bewildered at each other for a couple of hours. Then we go home, feeling elated, but still slightly mystified). --january 10-- Happy new year... and in our part of the world it really looks like a HAPPY new year: We now have 9/10ths of a new album that so far makes us want to throw most of our usual modesty aside, and we have a new label, namely every Scandinavian garage rocker's favourite music factory Bad Afro. The album will be out on May 8, if everything goes according to plan... and we have a strange feeling that, damnit, this time things actually will go according to plans. And the strange feelings won't stop, cos we're writing music like crazies. Apparently, there's no more mr. Brooding Guy. Instead there's a barrage of sounds going places where we haven't been before. You might like it, you might hate it, in any case you feel sleepy... sleepy... we will now count backwards from 10, and come May you will all feel compelled to buy two copies of the new album, and not put any of it on Soulseek. Web news -- we're on myspace too, although not super-actively --- Mother Superior (Brothers!) has had their own site for some time, go here or go into space all by your lonely self (which is not nearly as much fun!). |
